Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about InkWell.

Getting Started

What is InkWell?

InkWell is a booking and studio management platform built for tattoo artists and studios. Artists set up a public profile, list their services, define their availability, and receive booking inquiries from clients. Deposits are collected securely through Stripe before appointments are confirmed.

How much does InkWell cost?

InkWell offers three plans: Solo at £12/month (2% platform fee), Pro at £29/month (1% platform fee), and Studio at £99/month (0.5% platform fee). The platform fee applies to deposit and payment transactions processed through Stripe. Card processing fees (Stripe: 1.4% + 20p per transaction) are charged separately. There are no setup fees or long-term contracts.

Is InkWell available outside the UK?

We're launching in the UK first, with all prices in GBP and optimised for UK payment methods. We plan to expand to other markets in the future.

For Artists & Studios

How do I set up my studio?

Sign up, create your studio profile with a name, bio, and location, then add your services with pricing and deposit rules. Set your availability schedule and you're ready to receive booking inquiries. The whole setup takes about ten minutes.

Can I list different types of services?

Yes. InkWell supports multiple service types including tattoo sessions, consultations, touch-ups, design-only commissions, and flash pieces. Each service can have its own pricing, duration estimate, and deposit requirements.

How does the booking process work?

Clients submit a booking inquiry through your public page with details about their tattoo idea, budget, and preferences. You review the request, set a quote and deposit amount, then send it back. Once the client pays the deposit, you confirm the appointment. You're always in control of which bookings to accept.

Can I manage my own availability?

Yes. You set weekly availability rules with start and end times, slot durations, and buffer time between appointments. You can also block off specific dates for holidays or time off. Your public page only shows you as available during the windows you define.

Do I have to accept every booking request?

No. You have complete control over which bookings to accept. Review each request, consider whether the project suits your style, and decide. You can decline requests with a message or ask for more details before committing.

Can I run a multi-artist studio?

Yes. On the Pro and Studio plans, you can invite team members to your studio. Each artist manages their own profile, services, and availability while you maintain oversight of the studio as a whole.

How do deposits and payments work?

When you approve a booking request, you set a deposit amount. The client pays the deposit securely through Stripe, and the funds go directly to your connected Stripe account. InkWell takes a small platform fee. You can also issue refunds if needed.

How do I get paid?

Deposits and payments go directly to your Stripe account via Stripe Connect. Stripe typically pays out within 2–3 business days. You keep full control of your money, and InkWell never holds your funds.

Can I share my InkWell page on social media?

Absolutely. Your studio and artist pages have public URLs you can share anywhere — Instagram bio, stories, business cards, or your existing website. Clients can browse your profile and submit booking requests directly.

For Clients

How do I book a tattoo?

Find an artist or studio on InkWell, browse their services and portfolio, then submit a booking request with your tattoo idea, size, placement, budget, and preferred dates. The artist will review your request and respond with a quote and deposit amount.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can submit a booking request with just your name, email, and phone number. You'll receive email updates as the artist reviews your request and when your appointment is confirmed.

What happens after I submit a booking request?

The artist reviews your request and decides whether to accept. If they're interested, they'll send you a quote with a deposit amount. Once you pay the deposit, your appointment is confirmed. The artist may also ask follow-up questions before quoting.

Is my payment secure?

All payments are processed through Stripe, one of the world's most trusted payment providers. Your card details are never seen or stored by InkWell. They go straight to Stripe's secure systems.

Can I get a refund on my deposit?

Refund policies are set by each artist or studio. If you need to cancel, contact the artist directly. They can issue a full or partial refund through the platform if their policy allows it.

Why might an artist decline my request?

Artists may decline if the style doesn't match their expertise, they're fully booked, the budget doesn't align with their rates, or if the request doesn't provide enough detail. It's always worth including reference images and a clear description to give the artist the best chance to assess your project.
