Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about InkWell.

Getting Started

What is InkWell?

InkWell is a booking and studio management platform built for tattoo artists and studios. It brings together public booking pages, enquiry handling, deposits, calendars, client communication and team workflows in one place.

How much does InkWell cost?

InkWell has three plans: Solo at £12/month with a 2% platform fee on payments processed through InkWell, Pro at £29/month with a 1% fee, and Studio at £99/month with a 0.5% fee. Stripe processing fees are separate. There are no setup fees, and you can change plan as your business grows.

Do all payments have to go through InkWell?

No. InkWell is designed to make deposits easy, and you can also take the full balance through InkWell if that suits your setup. If you would rather collect the remaining balance in cash, by bank transfer or on your own card machine, that is entirely up to you. InkWell only charges platform fees on payments it processes.

Is InkWell available outside the UK?

We are focused on the UK first, with prices in GBP and flows designed for UK studios and artists. We plan to expand over time.

For Artists & Studios

How quickly can I get set up?

Most artists can get the essentials live quickly. Create your public page, add your services, set your availability, connect Stripe and start taking enquiries. You can always refine your booking questions, portfolio and automations later.

Can I list different services and booking types?

Yes. You can set up consultations, day sessions, flash, touch-ups, repeat work and other service types with their own pricing, deposit expectations and booking details.

How does the deposit system work?

When you are ready to accept an enquiry, you can send a quote and deposit request through InkWell. The client pays online, the money goes to your connected Stripe account, and you confirm the appointment once the deposit is in place. You stay in control of how much to request and when a booking is considered confirmed.

Can I take the full payment through InkWell as well?

Yes, if you want to. InkWell supports deposits as the default booking step, and you can also use it for the remaining balance. If your usual process is to take the balance directly on the day, that works too.

Can assistants help run the admin side?

Yes. Pro includes one assistant account for behind-the-scenes help. Studio adds broader team roles and permissions. Assistants can help with enquiries, calendars, artist profiles and day-to-day admin, but billing, Stripe payouts and payment controls stay with the relevant studio leads.

How does enquiry triage work?

InkWell helps you triage enquiries before anything is booked in. Solo and Pro keep booking requests in one place so nothing gets lost. On Studio, new enquiries can stay in a shared queue, be claimed manually or be routed to the right teammate based on the selected artist, workload and availability.

Can I run a multi-artist studio on InkWell?

Yes. Studio is built for multi-artist teams with multiple artist profiles, team roles, shared inbox tools, lead routing and a shared calendar view. Pro stays focused on one artist with one assistant account.

Can I sell merch through InkWell?

Yes on Pro and Studio. You can offer prints, aftercare or branded studio items through InkWell and take payment through the platform, while your studio stays in control of fulfilment and customer service. Solo does not include merch.

How do payouts work?

Payments processed through InkWell are paid into your connected Stripe account. InkWell does not hold client funds. Payout timing is handled by Stripe and depends on your account status and verification.

Can I share my InkWell page on social media or my own site?

Yes. Your public studio or artist page has a shareable link you can use in your Instagram bio, website, QR codes or wherever you send clients.

For Clients

How do I book a tattoo through InkWell?

Find the artist or studio, look through their services and portfolio, then send an enquiry with your tattoo idea, placement, size, budget and preferred dates.

Do I need an account to send an enquiry?

No. You can submit a request with your contact details and the information the artist needs to review the idea.

Do I have to pay the full amount up front?

Usually not. Most artists use InkWell to collect a deposit first. Depending on the studio's setup, the remaining balance can either be paid through InkWell or settled directly with the artist.

What happens after I submit a request?

The artist or studio reviews it, may ask follow-up questions, and can quote the work when they are ready. Some studios also triage incoming enquiries so the right person can pick it up before dates are offered.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. Payments are processed securely through Stripe. Your card details are not stored by InkWell.

Can I get a refund on my deposit?

Deposit and cancellation policies are set by each artist or studio. If they allow a refund, it can be processed against the original payment.

Why might my request be declined?

A request may be declined if the project is not the right fit, the artist is fully booked, the budget does not match the work, or more detail is needed before they can commit.

Security & Privacy

How does InkWell protect my data?

We take security seriously. Our platform uses HTTPS encryption throughout, and we follow industry best practice for data protection. We are GDPR compliant and only collect the information needed to provide the service.

Where is InkWell based?

InkWell is designed and built in the United Kingdom for tattoo artists and studios. We use secure infrastructure and UK-first product and payment flows.
